The Old Flame

They replaced the original flame when they did the restoration of the statue, the old one is in the museum in the base of the statue. Originally, the flame was also made of copper, but the statue was converted for use as a lighthouse by cutting holes into the flame, and lighting it from within. The modified flame leaked rain, leading to much of the internal damage in the arm. The new flame is gold leaf, per the suggestion of the original sculptor.
